Hello there, I came across your article deep-diving trying to go down the rabbit hole to find answers for a case similar to yours. I too suffer from chronic pain and both my feet. The pain started four years ago when I was doing a thru-hike of the Appalachian trail. I woke up one morning and I could not bear any more weight on my feet contributed to an overuse injury from doing so many miles so quick hiking. Google, foot problems came up with plantar fasciitis came off the trail and went home. Went to a few different doctors all told me the same thing all the non invasive therapies for plantar fasciitis custom orthotics icing massage stretching night splints anti-inflammatories. None of these work. My pain level would fluctuate day today. More activity higher the pain. over the years I kind of got used to it but I think my symptoms started to evolve into something else different types of pain of pain. after seeing countless doctors and countless failed non-invasive therapies like yourself. I finally had a surgical procedure done called a gastroc recession. First I had it done on my left calf then I had it done on my right calf about three and a half months apart. They also did a heel fasciotomy with injections of amniotic fluid to help promote healing. the reason I had the second one done so soon when I wasn't totally healed from the first one was I had a timeline to be back to work I only had six months off. so my doctor agrees he would do the second surgery if I was to be in a wheelchair post-op. Well that was in July and it is now December 2nd and I am still in the wheelchair. Since the surgery my pain threshold is now to the point where I cannot bear any weight. I've been back to doctors for more tests did physical therapy (made things worse) and now pain management Doctors. all who have their own opinion but none who have a confirm diagnosis on why the surgeries did what they did to me or why I am worse. One doctor the pain specialist said it was due to having tibial neuropathy. when she said he does not know if it was there prior to the surgery or the surgery made it worse. my podiatrist who did the surgery still doesn't know why he says I'm the only case he's ever had that ever got worse from the surgery. My insurance is now denying certain tests to be done because of medical necessity so that's frustrating trying to get to the bottom of answers when I can't get insurance to cover things. So as of right now I do not have an answer and I am in chronic pain everyday. I am now disabled where I'm in this wheelchair everyday my life is turned upside down 28 year old guy was a firefighter paramedic, now the sits in his room all day. Thank you for sharing your story I am trying to hold onto hope. I'm out here fighting for it. I'm sorry for any Grammer errors I use voice chat to type this.

I asked the husband if he'd rather have my chronic foot issues or chronic food/digestion issues and being a food lover he said he'd rather have the former. I so admire you for all the years you've been trying to figure out what you can/cannot eat, especially for the sake of your babies. There aren't easy answers for any of our challenges, but hopefully we can survive through the people around us who care, and our faith.

My sister has eczema and I see her struggling through the different seasons with it. I can't imagine what you guys have to go through, with the itchiness and pain. I hope there will eventually be a way to provide lasting relief that isn't through steroids. Hugs!

I've read a bit about stem cell therapy too, and it sounds so promising. I hope this is something we don't have to wait too long in the future for. Thanks for encouraging me to keep writing, it means a lot!

Fascinating! Thank you, Kay, for sharing this! Do you think this is something I can just ask any podiatrist to do, or is it a special technique?

Gosh, I am a wimp and squirm at anything that causes pain. I do hope you continue to post your stories on pain and what helps! It seems like all of us will eventually get some sort of chronic disease or annoying body discomfort at some point in our lives... I recently went to a lecture about stem cell therapy for pain...and am curious if that would be something we can look forward to if it works! I am always praying for scientists and health providers to find new effective treatments!

Hi, I have chronic foot and chronic muscle problems too (chronic too many to list).

After trying many types of orthotics, I have found that the one made with plaster of paris mold when i was lying on my tummy so the foot curves are pronounced.. helped a lot. Using that cast, my orthotics were custom molded using some kind of rubber looking material. It looks ugly but seems to do a much better job than other foam moulded /stiff orthotics or digitally done with flat orthotics .. I've worn the rubber looking orthotics for 6 years now and it's helped a lot with foot pain. It just looks like rubber but not rubber and is not flexible like rubber.
